Live Foo Fighters
Watch the Foo Fighters play the entire new album live. I like watching them play more than I like listening. Tight.

Trailer Park: Lethal Weapon
This one's an oldie ....where I come from. As it's allegedly about to remade, let's enjoy the original Lethal Weapon trailer.
I remember being on holiday in France and seeing posters for this (L'arme Fatale) and that Sidney Poitier movie where they're chasing The Kurgen through the mountains. Looks like only one of them bagged a spot in my memory.

The Tree Of Life Arrives ...Soon
Terrence Mallick's new movie The Tree of Life is having it's Cannes Festival world premiere screening on May 16th - though it may allegedly or not be arriving in UK cinemas on May 4th. Cannot wait either way. I might even go to the cinema to see it.
Visit www.twowaysthroughlife.com for some more vague info.

There's An App For That: Yurekuru
BC and I are in the field over in Tokyo this week ....and have been rocked by the frequent aftershocks from last months big quake (a magnitude 7.1 and a 7.4 being the biggest). A frequent sound prior to the tremor is the ding ding of the Yurekuru App, which gives locals a quick heads-up. You can even set a minimum intensity over which you want warning, as most people here don't get out of bed for less than a 7.
Japan doesn't use the same magnitude system as the West, preferring the Japan Meteorological Agency seismic intensity scale which records quakes in actual relative intensity - rating the quake bigger the closer you are to the epicentre. The ratings are also accompanied by a written description, ranging from "Hanging objects such as lamps swing slightly" through "Hanging objects swing violently. Most unstable ornaments fall. Occasionally, dishes in a cupboard and books on a bookshelf fall and furniture moves" to "Most furniture moves to a large extent and some jumps up".
Update: The USGS has data streams accessible by the "Quakes" app - in English.

iPod At 10
2011 marks the tenth anniversary of the iPod and amid the possibility that the original style is on the way out in favour of the touch models, Mac Rumors has a pretty amusing link to their forum - dating back to the day of the original announcement. It's an iLol.

Netflix Vs HBO
Netflix seems to be fancying itself as the next HBO, commisioning a remake of 1990 British TV show House of Cards under the guiding hand of David Fincher - and starring Kevin Spacey. The show will initially run exclusively via Netflix's own streaming services late next year. In a show of confidence, they have commisioned two full series up front - 26 episodes. Quite a stretch, considering the original was only four parts.
Netflix already has 20m subscribers, compared to HBO's 28m. If only Love Film was as ambitious.

New Eddie Vedder: Ukulele Songs
Eddie Vedder is back with a new solo album on May 31st, his first since the recent-Pearl-Jam trumping Into The Wild soundtrack. Ukulele Songs is made up of new songs and covers, unsurprisingly played on a ukulele. Don't worry if that's a deal-breaker for you however as he also has a tour film - Water On The Road - coming out on the same date and directed by Fugazi's Brendan Canty. That film is culled from 2008's solo tour and features solo cuts mixed in with Pearl Jam classics.
First single Longing To Belong is out today.

Tron 1.5
I haven't seen Tron 2 - but if reports are to be believed it's as lacking as the original. On that note, here's a short film that features on the blu-Ray disc and Bridges (get it?) the gap between the two films, as well as unfortunately signalling that more may be coming.

Ad Nauseum: Day V Lately
Anyone who remembers J.R. Hartley from 1983 will get the joke with Yell's mildly nauseating updated commercial, but the campaign goes beyond the TV ad. Check out Day V Lately's website, in all in 1996-era glory. Best viewed in Internet Explorer.
Strange to only aim an ad at the over 28's, but at least Yellow Pages seem to be becoming aware of who might actually use them these days. We have Ask Jeeves now after all.

Nazi 3D Films Discovered
I thought this was an Onion spoof when I first saw it, but apparently the Nazis were shooting in 3D as far back as 1936 - 16 years before Hollywood first started its tedious flirtation with the gimmick.
They probably invented it so they could shoot Iron Sky in the format.

Skate or die: The Get By - Skating NYC
In support of last year's New York-set dramedy How To Make It In America, HBO made this nice little film The Get By - documenting the New York skate scene.
The show also features references to a supposed New York skate 'legend' - Wilfredo Gomez ... a film about whom you can see above.

New J Mascis: Is It Done
ever since I spent three days thinking I'd finally blown my hearing after standing a bit too near the speakers at a Dinosaur Jr gig, I've kind of preferred it when J Mascis keeps things quiet... so I'm looking forward to this acoustic-ish album he's got coming out, with loads of guests (Kurt Vile, A Silver Mount Zion’s Sophie Trudeau, Kevin Drew, Ben Bridwell, Black Heart Procession’s Pall Jenkins, Matt Valentine etc). great primer track over at PFork and if you hand over your email Sub Pop will give you another

New My Morning Jacket: Circuital
"I want it to sound like we're Cuban or Cambodian kids, and we're wearing berets and we're walking through an alley and we stumble upon this band, and it explodes into this crazy sing-along."
My Morning Jacket have a new album - Circuital - out this spring. Make of that what you will. The good news:
"We want people to have almost the exact opposite experience they had last time. I definitely had some goals of wanting to make this one warmer and somehow more contained and more concise of a statement."

Trailer Park: Easy Rider - The Ride Back
No, it's not a porno remake - it's an actual sequel/prequel to 60's classic Easy Rider. Not sure how connected the production actually is with the original. According to the blurb:
"The long awaited prequel/sequel to one of the highest grossing independent films of all time, "Easy Rider" defined the thoughts and values of a generation. EASY RIDER: THE RIDE BACK shows through flashbacks how these much loved characters became the classic icons of a generation."
Looks like a total turd to me.
