Sub Pop Soundcloud
It seems like there's finally a decent YouTube-for-audio in the form of soundcloud.com, with it's success measured by the number of labels that have started using it to distribute their MPFrees.
Sub Pop are using it to giveaway/stream a total of 4 tracks from the new Wolf Parade LP, and if you head over to their soundcloud page they also have a few mix-tapes to listen/download - featuring the likes of Avi Buffalo, No Age and Vetiver.

UP THERE.
Lovely short film up at Vimeo documenting the guys that still paint the multi-story billboard ads in NYC.
FYI ...should you find yourself wanting a Stella at the end, it's an advertorial. Produced by Mother NY.

Lost Explanation from A Bad Robot Insider
interesting take on the Lost finale from inside the writers' room at Bad Robot; still kind of disappointed they came down on the side of faith over science - felt like it had been a pretty even debate up to the last season...

Write The Future
Sure, it's an ad from a mega corporation, but ads don't get much more epic than this - just in time for the World Cup. Amores Perros director Alejandro González Iñárritu is the man calling the shots...
And while we're at it, here's a quick Nike salute to LA Laker Kobe Bryant, leading the Lakers into the NBA finals this week. Andre 3000 covers All Together Now on the soundtrack. (via Pitchfork)

TV Catch Up
TV on the move is becoming more and more of a reality, thanks in no small part to the BBC iPlayer (which is even HD on the iPad) and now TV Catch Up, who have just launched an iPhone-friendly version of their site.
The name is a little misleading, as much of the site's original PVR functionality has been dropped to meet legal requirements, and by all accounts the service is now legal. Barely.
Visit iphone.tvcatchup.com from your (i)phone browser or ipad.tvcatchup.com from your iPad and once registered you can watch live TV from the bulk of the better Freeview channels. Add it to the home screen for easy access.

Mission To Mars(ish)
It's been 18 months since we last covered it - and they're only just setting off - but the Mars 500 project kicks off today in Moscow.
6 would-be astronauts will be sealed inside a simulation space capsule to document the effects of an 18 month round trip to the red planet. The simulator even includes a mock-up of the planet's surface - so the effects of EVA can be studied after the 6 month feet-up session.
One thing that has changed in 18 months is the arrival of Twitter - which Italian pseudonaut Diego Urbina will be updating during the trip. The mission also has a blog.

The Week That Was
You may have noticed this year that the review section has been rather malnourished. Well we figured, why keep adding to the endless critical sewage that's pumped from the internet every second - who even reads this shit? I certainly stopped reading lengthy track-by-track reviews a long time ago. So, as well as the occasional review of a release that really warrants chatter, we're going to start including a quick weekly rundown of records that have been pricking up our ears - mostly new releases but the occasional lost classic might squeeze in as well....
This week:
Radio Dept.

Parallel Lines
More entertisment from Ridley Scott's RSA Films. This time they're making films in aid of hawking the latest 'innovation' from Philips - widerscreen TVs.
The films revolve around the concept of a unicorn. That's Carl Erik Rinsch's effort above. See them all and make your own over at YouTube.

FBI Agent Jon Hamm is looking tough in this production still from the new Ben Affleck directed movie The Town, which sounds like a smaller scale version of Heat. Ben Affleck's last directorial effort Gone Baby Gone was excellent, in case you missed it.

The Lesser Spotted Spotify
Spotify's evolution continues, with 2 new additional variations of the app launched in the wake of their recent social media beef-up.
Spotify Open seems to be replacing the default free version of the app, and this new iteration will allow 20 hours per month of streaming - supported by ads.
Spotify Unlimited is a mis-leading title for a version that allows unlimited, ad-free streaming, but no access for mobiles. £4.99 a month.
Spotify Premium remains the most full-featured version - and the only one which allows unlimited, ad-free streaming and mobile phone use. £9.99 a month.
