RIP: Harold Ramis

Looks like Venkman and Ray might be Ghostbusting Spengler if there's ever another Ghostbusters movie - as co-writer and star Harold Ramis has passed away, aged 69. He also directed all-time classic Groundhog Day, National Lampoon's Vacation and Caddyshack ... plus less-than-classic Multiplicity.

RIP: Elmore Leonard

Legendary author Elmore Leonard has died, aged 87. As well as being an author, Leonard has penned many film scripts all the way back to the 50s - including Joe Kidd and Mr. Majestyck. He saw a bit of a revival in the 90s with movies like Out of Sight, Jackie Brown and Get Shorty being made from his material. Recently he's seen a lot of success as the creator of Justified's leading character - Raylan Givens.

Do yourself a favour and read a copy of Tishomingo Blues.

America's Barry Norman, Roger Ebert has died aged 70. With presenting partner Gene Siskel, their show At The Movies ran a thumbs up/thumbs down system ...and generally got it right.

The Roobarb animator has died; here's his Oscar-winning short about Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Update 2: there are a few of his films available to buy on his site, although the Brunel one isn't there which is a shame, it's great (more on it here). This BBC doc is worth a look...

Two sides to QT's promo rounds for Django Unchained (which early reports are suggesting is pretty good) - here he is on C4 news "shutting" Krishnan Guru-Murty's "butt down", and then he's a bit more calm discussing his overall film career on Film 2013 (sounds like he's looking forward to the Tarantino Greatest Hits Boxset).

Trailer Park: Hitchcock

Anthony Hopkins fat-suits up for this biopic looking at the period when Hitchcock made Psycho. Helen Mirren plays his partner Alma Reville, Scarlett Johansson gets shower duties. Like a lot of those (entertaining and generally well done) BBC4 dramas based on classic TV shows, it's a bit hard to know exactly what we'll be getting out of this that a good documentary wouldn't show. Well-made tail-chasing?
