@StarWars artist Ralph McQuarrie has died aged 82. He's the guy who drew a lot of the original concept art for Star Wars, designing an entire world that is now a part of nearly everyone's culture.

Fast Company magazine has an interesting list of films mentioned by Martin Scosese as influentual to him. He's certainly consistent, as he's been talking a lot of these up since I was at film school - directly prompting me to check out Faces, Duel in the Sun, Gun Crazy, Kiss Me Deadly, The Leopard, A Matter of Life and Death, Peeping Tom and The Red Shoes ...amongst others. Pretty sure he put me onto Black Narcissus too - my favourite Powell & Presseburger movie.

This month's "Most kills in a trailer" award goes to relentless Indonesian all-out martial arts cops n guns fest The Raid (@THERAIDMOVIE). Have heard bloody good things (well, it's bloody and it's good) from early reports - something of a tribute to early (ie pre-Hollywood) John Woo from Welsh director Gareth Evans by all accounts. Looks like they've borrowed The Wire's font too

Trailer Park: Year Zero ...with added Black Mountain
Trailer up for the epic surf movie 'Year Zero' from Globe. The movie itself looks pretty tasty, shot around the world on 16mm film ....but the real reason to get excited is the Black Mountain soundtrack.
The album features a few old classics (including 'Tyrants' - featuring my all time favourite drum licks) and a handful of unreleased tracks such as 'Phosphorescent Waves', 'Embrace Euphoria', 'In Sequence' and 'Mary Lou' - which you can download over at Jagjaguwar and listen to below.
The album is out April 2nd in the UK, April 3rd elswhere.

Scarface
Shapeless pacing and shoddy production values make for one of the most over-rated film school favorites.
Halliwell says: Absurdly brutalized version of the above, with detailed violence and a superabundance of foul language. Scarface has now become an emigre Cuban, and the film seems to want to make a political statement.

Tony Hawk's Ride Channel
@YouTube have been setting up some new content partnerships recently and @RIDEChannel is one such offering, from Tony Hawk's 900 Films. The idea is to push channels with regular, programmed content - as YouTube attempst to push itself as a TV replacement.
Ride Channel features a number of skateboard-related shows, such as Jamie Thomas' Let The Good Times Roll, Trick-a-day, Hand in Hand - which features interviews with musicians who have inspired skating (Thurston Moore, for example), Free Lunch which rolls down memory lane with famous skaters and In Focus, which provies great technical tips on making your own skate movies.
