The Dark Knight Returns - As A Cartoon
After the entertaining but ultimately a bit "hang on what about ... " finale to Christopher Nolan's big screen trilogy, here's another Batman film that might be more satisfying (or totally frustrating) - an animated version of Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns. Pt1 is out in October, Pt2 in 2013. There's a longer trailer here, or you could just read the 1986 comic. It's quite good.

Trailer Park: Killing Them Softly
Been looking forward to this one for ages - Killing Them Softly is the new movie from director Andrew Dominik (Chopper, Assasination of Jesse James), shot by Greig Fraser (Bright Star, Let Me In, Crossbow) and starring Brad Pitt (Dallas, Kalifornia).
Terrible title. The book it's based on is called Cogan's Trade.

Twitch have got pics of Charlie Humman, Rinko Kikuchi and Idris Elba in Guillermo Del Toro's upcoming mecha-robots v monsters sci-fi Pacfic Rim; and a look at Matt Damon getting all Bruce Willis in Neill "District 9" Blomkamp's Elysium (a future where the rich live on a satellite orbiting Earth). Like the sound of both, intrigued to see what Del Toro does with a plot that sounds very close to late 70s/early 80s anime classic Gundam.

Kung full-on trailer for RZA's directorial debut. As you might have guessed from years of Shaw Brothers samples, it's a martial arts showdown - co-written with Eli Roth, Tarantino presents - you get the idea. Starring Russell Crowe, Cung Le, Lucy Liu, Jamie Chung, Rick Yune and David Bautista, with Grace Huang, Pam Grier, Gordon Liu.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Decent reboot with Andrew Garfield's Spidey a skating loner at school, Emma Stone a great Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as The Lizard (so-so CGI, but some nuance in character makes him a bit less cartoony than the shouty villains in the last three films). Bonus points for the Gonz poster in Peter Parker's bedroom. Denis Leary, Martin Sheen and Sally Field all add class to a film that's balanced, remembers that being Spidey is fun, has some good 3D cityscape scenes and works despite the inevitable "climb up a sky scraper and FIGHT" boss level climax. Still not quite sure we needed to see the whole "how Spidey gets his powers" origin story again, but overall it's much more enjoyable than Tobey Maguire's webslinger. BTW avoid the 25 minute fan edit of all the trailers - it is basically the whole film, very odd that they'd give away so much online.
